Molly Goddard

Look 2 is made from over 16 metres of light pink stiff Italian tulle, featuring a sheer, T-shirt-style bodice and a hand-smocked skirt. The signature smocking technique shapes the skirt, layering panels on top of panels and creating volume and depth. The sheer bodice provides a light, contrasting finish.

Molly Goddard Studio uses traditional hand-smocking techniques. The fabric lengths are cut by hand and then hand-rolled onto doweling poles, which are carefully threaded through a hand-smocking machine. The right tension and turning technique are used to create perfect pin lines in the densely gathered panels. These manual machines, dating from the 1950s, were originally made to work on small squares of fabric for children's clothes. However, Molly Goddard saw their potential and, since working with her first smocking machine during her Master's course at St. Martins, has developed the exacting technique that is integral to her designs.

Each piece in the Resort 2025 Collection is one of a kind, crafted by skilled makers in our East London atelier. Designed to fit sizes 8 to 16, each item reflects our commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The collection will be available to shop at Dover Street Market London and online from January 2025.
